Summary

Harvard Elementary School in Toledo, OH is a K–8 school at 1949 Glendale Ave serving 262 students, making it one of the smallest K–8 schools in its corner of the Toledo City district. That district as a whole ranks 662nd of 773 Ohio districts (14th percentile, 1 star), yet Harvard itself ranked 1,033rd of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools in 2025–2026 (34th percentile, 2 stars), up from 1,203rd (23rd percentile) the year before — an 11 percentile-point jump and a 170-place climb. That is the largest year-over-year gain among the nearby Toledo City K–8 schools, while Marshall STEMM Academy, Pickett Elementary School, Burroughs Elementary School and Byrnedale Elementary School all slipped. Only Beverly Elementary School, at the 53rd percentile, ranks higher nearby.

Attendance is a genuine strength. In 2025–2026, 29.9% of Harvard students were chronically absent, versus 39.8% district-wide — Harvard has beaten the district rate every year on record and cut its own rate by about 19 percentage points from its 2021–2022 peak of 49.2%. Only Escuela SMART Academy (11.9%) and Beverly Elementary School (14.5%) did better among nearby schools, while several peers sat at 41–53%. Harvard also has the smallest classes in its peer group, at 13.1 students per teacher (down from 14.8 in 2022–2023), and spent $11,531 per student — more than every nearby Toledo City school except Beverly, and far above the nearby charter Toledo Preparatory and Fitness Academy ($7,247).

Academically, reading is the engine and math is the drag. Averaged across grades 3–8, Harvard's English/language arts proficiency is roughly 61% — essentially at the state average and about 27 points above the district — while math averages roughly 35%, better than the district (~24%) but about 23 points below the state (~58%). Third-grade ELA is the standout single result at 73.7% proficient, 10 points above the state and up from 30.4%. Seventh-grade math (16.7%) is the one measure below the district average (17.8%). Eighth grade surged in 2025–2026: ELA and science both rose from 21.4% to 59.3%. Grade-to-grade swings are wide, partly because cohorts of roughly 25–35 students mean one or two students can shift a grade's percentage by 3–4 points. Lower-income students ranked 41st percentile, above the school's own 34th, and girls and boys rank nearly identically (29th and 28th percentile).

Open Quote I love the middle school team! They work so well together to prepare my son for high school! I'm sorry he isn't getting a junior high experience like I did, but they do a lot of cool things with them. The new principal is really nice too! Close Quote
