Summary

Greenbriar Middle School is a grades 5–8 school in Parma, Ohio, part of the Parma City district, serving 1,064 students—about 46% larger than its in-district peers, Hillside Middle School (717) and Shiloh Middle School (729). In 2025–26 it ranked 598th of 1,046 Ohio schools (43rd percentile, 2 stars), slightly above the district average but down from a peak of 62nd percentile in 2022–23. About 66.25% of students were economically disadvantaged in 2023–24, up from 60.75%, and the student–teacher ratio is 17.4.

Results are sharply split by grade. Fifth and eighth grades perform slightly above state averages, while sixth and seventh grades lag well behind; 7th grade math is the weakest at 28.2%, 20.4 points below the state. The advanced math pipeline is a genuine strength: Algebra I proficiency was 94.4% in 2025–26 and 100% the year before, and 8th grade math (65.4%) also beats district and state. But Greenbriar reports no Geometry End-of-Course results, so its top math offering appears to stop at Algebra I. Chronic absenteeism is rising: 30.9% in 2025–26, up from 21.5% in 2022–23, now 6.5 points above the district and roughly double the rates at Harding Middle School (14.8%), Lewis F Mayer Middle School (14.2%), and North Royalton Middle School (18.3%).

Greenbriar outperforms its demographics but trails Hillside by a stable 17 percentile points over three years; Hillside also has lower absenteeism and higher per-student spending. The 8th-grade/Algebra I end performs like a 4- or 5-star school, while the 6th- and 7th-grade core performs closer to the charter sector. Year-over-year swings are large—8th grade math went from 96.6% in 2022–23 to 53.3%, 63.2%, and 65.4%, and that early spike looks like a test-population artifact. Low-income students rank 54th percentile, above the school’s 43rd overall, and the gifted subgroup reached 95th percentile in 2021–22, though no recent gifted data is reported. Watch absenteeism as a leading indicator. Bottom line: a large, high-poverty middle school with an excellent advanced-math pipeline and respectable 5th/8th grade results, dragged down by a weak 6th/7th grade core. The gap to Hillside is the most actionable comparison.
