Summary

Elizabeth Price Elementary School is a K–5 school at 2610 Delmore St in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, serving 271 students — the third-smallest of the six elementaries in the Cuyahoga Falls City School District. It currently sits in the lower-middle tier of Ohio elementaries at the 43rd percentile with 2 stars, down from the 60th percentile and 3 stars in 2022-23, and roughly back to where it stood in 2017-18.

There is a lot to like here. Third- and fourth-grade math are genuine strengths — 75.9% and 75.0% proficient, both above the district and state — and English Language Learners have performed at the 72nd percentile with 4 stars for three straight years, about 30 points above the school as a whole. Chronic absenteeism has fallen from 21.8% to 15.2% over five years while staying roughly 8 points better than the district, even as the school's poverty rate rose to 76.75%, the highest of any Cuyahoga Falls elementary. Class sizes are also favorable, with a student-teacher ratio of 13.5 — second-lowest in the district. Notably, third-grade math here beats Gordon Dewitt Elementary School and comes close to Silver Lake Elementary School, despite far higher poverty.

The concern is the upper grades. Fifth grade has declined in every subject for four years: math 50.0%, ELA 59.4%, and science 34.4% — each the lowest in that window, with science nearly 30 points below the district. Preston Elementary School, less than a mile away with similar poverty and class size, shows the same fifth-grade dip, suggesting a regional pattern rather than a Price-specific failure. Meanwhile, Richardson Elementary School, Silver Lake, and Gordon Dewitt all rank considerably higher overall. A widening gender gap — girls at the 54th percentile, boys at the 35th — is also worth watching. Because the incoming third- and fourth-grade classes look much healthier than the cohort now leaving, the slide may prove cyclical rather than permanent.
