The school is part of the Columbus City Schools District, which is ranked 688 out of 828 districts in Ohio and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School has consistently ranked in the bottom 20% of Ohio elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Devonshire Alternative Elementary School faces significant challenges, as evidenced by its high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 52.6% to 28.1% over the past few years, which are significantly higher than the district and state averages. The school's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on Ohio State Tests, is consistently well below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 5th-grade science proficiency rate was 38.2%, compared to 30.5% for the district and 63.4% for the state.

The performance of Devonshire Alternative Elementary School stands in stark contrast to many of the nearby schools, such as Parkmoor Elementary, Forest Park Elementary, and the schools in the Worthington City district, which consistently outperform Devonshire Alternative on academic measures and have much lower chronic absenteeism rates. While the data indicates that there may be pockets of success, such as the relatively stronger performance of certain student subgroups, addressing the school's challenges will require a comprehensive approach to improve its overall performance.

Open Quote I am a teacher at Devonshire. I've had experiences at several other schools, and Devonshire is a unique and wonderful school.

Our Project Adventure curriculum separates us from other schools in the Columbus area. We operate with an experiential learning cycle, and spend more time "doing" than other schools. All grades participate in an indoor climbing unit, and also attend overnight camp. These experiences create fabulous memories, and offer a really unique learning opportunity.

Devonshire is truly a diverse school. In my class this year alone, I have 9 nationalities represented. How cool!

My coworkers are committed, caring professionals. We are always striving to be the best we can be. We have great resources, both in material items and the people in the building.

Devonshire is a great place to be! Close Quote
