Summary

Alliance Community Schools Inc. dba Dayton Leadership Academy is a K–8 charter school serving 552 students at 1416 W Riverview Ave on Dayton's west side, operating as its own district and ranking in the bottom eighth of Ohio schools. Its ten-year record shows slow but steady improvement: from the 3rd–7th percentile in 2015–2019 to an 11th–13th percentile plateau since 2021, with a dip to the 6th percentile in 2024–25 followed by a rebound to the 12th percentile in 2025–26.

Test scores tell a split story. Grades 3 and 4 math (46.9% and 45.6% proficient) are within striking distance of state levels and beat most nearby schools, but proficiency collapses from grade 5 onward — grades 6–8 math sit in the single digits (7.4%, 9.7%, 7.8%), a pattern that has held for four straight years. Grade 5 and 8 science are also far below state averages. Attendance is the clearest bright spot: chronic absenteeism has fallen from 53.3% to 37.6% over four years, lower than every nearby Dayton City school.

Among 11 nearby schools, Dayton Leadership Academy places 5th — ahead of City Day Community School and well ahead of Edison Elementary School, just 0.36 miles away and the lowest-ranked school in the group. It trails Deca Prep and Emerson Academy, which post much higher middle-school math scores; Deca Prep, 1.15 miles away with similar spending and a larger class size, also reports strong Algebra I results while Dayton Leadership Academy reports none. Special education students improved from the 6th to the 20th percentile. Two caveats for families: per-pupil spending data ($8,778) dates to 2018–19, and the student/teacher ratio jumped from 15.0 to 20.4 in a single year.
