Danville Local is a small school district in the Danville, Ohio area (Knox County) serving 574 students across just two schools: Danville Elementary School (PK–6, 353 students) and Danville High School (grades 7–12, 221 students). There is no standalone middle school — grades 7 and 8 are housed in the high school building. The district as a whole earned 4 stars and ranks 208th of 773 Ohio districts (73rd percentile), but that single district label conceals two very different school profiles.
Danville Elementary School is the district's standout. It has held 4 stars in each of the last three years while climbing from the 72nd to the 80th percentile statewide. In 2025-26 it scored above the state average on all nine tested subjects — math gaps were especially wide (6th grade math 85.4% vs 56.2% state; 4th grade math 90.9% vs 67.3%), and 5th grade science jumped to 88.9% from 64.1% the prior year. Chronic absenteeism is just 3.9%, well below the district's 6.6%. The one number to watch is 3rd grade ELA, the only elementary result level with state (63.6% vs 63.4%) and down 8.4 points from last year.
Danville High School is stronger in places than its overall profile suggests. Its 7th and 8th grade results are excellent (8th grade math and ELA both 81.6%, more than 20 points above state), and it posts a 100% graduation rate. Geometry improved sharply to 57.6% (state 43.3%), and Algebra I and English II moved above state. The exception is American Government — the only below-state test in the district at 59.5% vs 71.6%, and also below state the year before. The high school's rank has oscillated (48th → 56th → 46th percentile, 2 stars), and its 10.9% chronic absenteeism is nearly three times the elementary's. For parents, the practical takeaways are early literacy at the elementary and attendance and government at the high school.
