Brown Local is a small Ohio district serving about 568 students across three schools in one K–12 pipeline: Malvern Elementary School (grades K–5, 259 students), Malvern Middle School (grades 6–8, 143 students), and Malvern High School (grades 9–12, 166 students). There is no alternative school in the district. As a whole, Brown Local ranks 411 of 773 Ohio districts — the 47th percentile, at 2 stars — but the school-level results tell a more varied story.
Malvern Elementary School is the district's strongest performer. It ranks 681 of 1,560 schools, at the 56th percentile with 3 stars, and is the only school in the district currently rated 3 stars. It scored above the state in 6 of 7 reported tests, with standout results in 5th-grade science (75.6 vs. 62.7) and 3rd-grade math (71.8 vs. 62.1); 4th-grade math (62.8 vs. 67.3) is its one weak spot. Malvern High School stands out for a 100% graduation rate and strong results in biology, English II, American history and American government, with a very low student-teacher ratio of 7.1. Its math results are the weak point: geometry 26.5 vs. the state's 43.3 and Algebra I 51.0 vs. 61.6.
