Summary

School 4-George Mather Forbes is an elementary school in Rochester, NY, serving 251 students in grades PK-6 as part of the Rochester City School District. Despite increased per-student spending, this school consistently ranks among the lowest-performing elementary schools in New York, with significantly lower proficiency rates on state assessments compared to the district and state averages.

The school's academic performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as African American and special education students. This raises concerns about equity and the school's ability to meet the needs of all its students. Interestingly, nearby schools like School 54-Flower City Community School and School 9-Dr Martin Luther King Junior have higher proficiency rates and rankings than School 4-George Mather Forbes, despite also being part of the struggling Rochester City School District.

The high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds and the significant increase in per-student spending at School 4-George Mather Forbes suggest that factors beyond just funding, such as school leadership, teacher quality, and curriculum, may be contributing to the school's persistent low performance. Overall, School 4-George Mather Forbes appears to be a consistently low-performing elementary school in need of a more comprehensive approach to improving student outcomes.

Open Quote My son as well as my nephew attends this school. My son has been there for K&1st, and I must say that I was very involved in my son education both at home and at school. We have no complaints about #4 school the teachers that I dealt with and the staff have always have a common goal. They are understanding, respectful, caring, loving and so much more. I just love the Principal, she really cares for her students and their wellbeing, and it shows throughout the building and it's staff. Because my family and I are moving out of state is the only reason why he will not be returning and his sister wont be able to attend this school. Close Quote
