Summary

Minetto Elementary School serves 409 students from Pre-K through 6th grade in the small town of Minetto, NY, and is part of the Oswego City School District. This school stands out as the highest-performing elementary school in its district, ranking in the 47th percentile statewide in 2025—a remarkable turnaround from its 27th percentile ranking in 2019. With a low student-teacher ratio of 10.6:1 and high per-student spending of $29,553, Minetto provides an environment where students can receive more individualized attention, which likely contributes to its consistent academic outperformance compared to nearby schools.

Academically, Minetto consistently beats district averages across nearly all grade levels in English Language Arts and Math. For example, in 5th Grade Math, 62.5% of Minetto students were proficient, compared to the district average of 45.45% and the next best district school, Charles E Riley Elementary School, at 48%. The 5th grade class is a particular bright spot, achieving the school’s highest proficiency rates in ELA (60.42%), Math (62.5%), and Science (61.22%). When compared to other elementary schools in the region, Minetto is a clear leader—schools like Fairgrieve School (3rd percentile) and Granby Elementary School (9th percentile) in the Fulton City School District are among the lowest-performing in the state, making Minetto a highly desirable option for families in the area.

However, the school faces notable challenges. While overall performance is strong, there is a persistent gender achievement gap favoring male students, who rank in the 54th percentile statewide compared to female students at the 41st percentile. More critically, Minetto struggles to serve its most vulnerable populations: Special Education students rank in the 9th percentile and Low Socioeconomic Status students rank in the 25th percentile. This suggests that the school’s benefits are not reaching all students equally. Additionally, Minetto has a lower poverty rate (33.5% eligible for free or reduced lunch) compared to district peers like Leighton Elementary School (56.46%) and FitzHugh Park Elementary School (54.55%), which correlates with its higher test scores. For parents, Minetto offers a strong academic foundation with small class sizes, but it’s important to be aware of the equity gaps that need attention.

Open Quote Minetto is a wonderful elementary school. I firmly believe that a child's educational foundation is formed at the elementary school. The teachers there truly care about the students and believe in no child left behind! They work with the kids to make them want to learn. They are caring and nurturing of their students. My kids did exceptionally well at Minetto. Close Quote
