Summary

Woods Road Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 334 students in grades K-5 within the North Babylon Union Free School District in New York. The school has consistently underperformed compared to the district and state averages on standardized tests, with proficiency rates significantly lower than the state in key subjects and grade levels. For example, in 5th grade English Language Arts, only 32% of Woods Road students were proficient, compared to 56.61% statewide.

Woods Road Elementary's performance has declined over the past decade, dropping from a 3-star rating in 2015-2016 to a 0-star rating in the most recent 2024-2025 school year. The school struggles to support certain student subgroups, with low rankings for African American, Hispanic, and low-socioeconomic status students. This suggests potential equity issues that need to be addressed. Interestingly, other schools within the North Babylon district, such as Belmont Elementary and Parliament Place School, have higher proficiency rates and better overall rankings than Woods Road Elementary.

Despite a significant increase in per-student spending at Woods Road Elementary, from $16,797 in 2021-2022 to $32,322 in 2023-2024, the school's academic performance has continued to decline. This suggests the school may be facing challenges in effectively allocating and utilizing its resources to improve student outcomes. Addressing the unique needs of the school's diverse student population, including targeted interventions and support systems, may be necessary to reverse this concerning trend.

Open Quote I have a 5 yr. child in Kindergarten at this school and I've been very satisfied with the communication between the teachers/administrators/staff and myself, as well as the attention he receives in the classroom. He appears to be learning quite a bit and appears eager to go to school in spite of the long hours Kindergarten students typically log, now. My son also appears to feel safe to explore socially with other children and has made friends. Close Quote
