Summary

Madison Central School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Madison, NY, with 432 students. While the school has seen some improvements in recent years, it continues to face several challenges compared to state averages and nearby schools.

Madison Central's test scores are generally lower than the state average, with proficiency rates ranging from 30-42% in ELA, 31-48% in math, and 40-45% in science, compared to state averages of 50-57%, 47-60%, and 43-45%, respectively. The school's graduation rates, which range from 84.3% to 90.9%, are also below the state average, and its dropout rates of 2.1% to 6.2% are higher than desired. Additionally, Madison Central has very high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 31.5% to 38.1%, which is a significant concern.

When compared to nearby alternative schools, such as Edmeston Central School and Brookfield Central School, Madison Central appears to be underperforming, with lower test scores and graduation rates. However, the school has seen a significant increase in per-student spending, from $13,793 in 2020-2021 to $28,043 in 2023-2024, suggesting the Madison Central School District is investing more resources into the school, though this has not yet translated into improved academic outcomes.

Open Quote Poor communication. Lack of well equipped staff esp in the guidance department. Harassment and bullying run rampant with the victims being more punished for either trying to fit into a low class group of kids or for defending themselves. The administration is more concerned with their image and protecting the institution and has no reguard for the actual impact it has on it's student body. Recommend avoiding the area if raising a family or looking into private or homeschooling. Close Quote
