The school's academic performance, as measured by Regents exam proficiency rates, is generally lower than the district and state averages across most subject areas, with the exception of English Language Arts, where the school outperforms the district and state. The school's four-year graduation rate has fluctuated in recent years, ranging from 73.5% to 92.8%, with the most recent rate being 84.3% in 2023-2024. However, the school has a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 26.8% to 35.8% in recent years, which is higher than the district and state averages.

Compared to nearby schools, such as New Utrecht High School, Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, and Fort Hamilton High School, High School Of Telecommunication Arts And Technology generally performs worse on academic measures, with lower Regents exam proficiency rates and graduation rates. However, these nearby schools also have higher chronic absenteeism rates and a larger percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which may indicate higher levels of socioeconomic disadvantage. The school's increased funding and resources, as well as its focus on improving student engagement and attendance, may present opportunities for the school to address its academic challenges and better support its diverse student population.

Open Quote As a student at High School of Telecommunications Arts and Technology, I can say that this school sucks academically. If you’re looking for good college opportunities in this school, I suggest you look somewhere else. Just look at the mediocre colleges these seniors get into. It has almost been a year, and I haven’t learned anything that seemed challenging or required a lot of critical thinking. Going in to this school I thought I was gonna be experiencing obstacles that made me expand my knowledge, yet I haven’t faced anything close to what I depicted. It was honestly surprising to see how easy it was to get 90s and above in this school. I definitely still worked hard neither the less, I just hoped their was more I could do. This school doesn’t offer a lot of AP courses, and overall have horrible exam scores. If you can’t apply for anything else, I suggest Fort Hamilton High School(better exam scores). In the course of one year, my Geometry teacher has taught me nothing but useless 8th grade math. It was making me frustrated, I felt like I learned more in middle school. It made me felt more stupid then before. However, the teachers and staff are super friendly so it's kind of easy to find someone to talk to. They are super helpful, and I guess that makes up for the lack of grades. The Software Engineering Program is super neat too. Some suggestions I can make are to offer more programs such as a Honors Program for students who actually care about education. I would also suggest hiring teachers who take classes seriously, and not just something they do because of money. On a scale of one to ten this school is a four. Close Quote
