As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school has the best administration and teachers in all of NYC, public, private or charter. The teachers care about the students academic learning and emotional development. They are always piloting new programs to increase the offerings to students and trying to improve the middle school experience. We feel so lucky that our child attends IS187 and are grateful to every person who puts so much heart and soul into making it a great environment. Close Quote

Open Quote Good school even though some teachers may be strict everything in that school is awesome event the lessons are intriguing and interesting. You also get recess if the weather is good so thats always a plus. The principal is also very friendly and not intimidating like most principals. Close Quote

Open Quote I was skeptical about sending my daughter here, because she had been accepted to the Mark Twain math class, but she begged me to let her go to Christa McAuliffe, because she sensed more of a community and positive, happy attitude amongst the students. I am happy that I listened to her. This school has helped my daughter blossom socially in a positive environment that emphasizes not only academic rigor but community service and personal integrity. If you have the good fortune to live in District 20 and your child is accepted, consider yourself and your child very lucky. Close Quote

Open Quote I send my child to this school over mark twain due to good reviews. The first day my child went there he came home crying. Then on the 2nd week, I get a letter saying they have bedbugs. The teachers are extremely strict and put alot of pressure on you, and don't really teach. They just give a load of homework and expect your child to teach themselves.Your child will not have a good time. 2010-2011 Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
