While Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School serves a diverse student population, with a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, its academic performance has consistently ranked in the bottom half of New York elementary schools over the past 10 years. The school's proficiency rates on state assessments in English Language Arts and Math are generally below the state and district averages, and its performance has been relatively stagnant in recent years. Interestingly, the nearby PS 262 El Hajj Malik El Shabazz Elementary School and Success Academy Charter School-Bushwick tend to outperform Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School on state assessments, despite serving a similar demographic of students.

Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School's per-student spending of $19,030 and student-teacher ratio of 12.9 are both higher than the state averages, suggesting that the school's challenges may not be solely due to resource constraints. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with female students generally outperforming male students. To improve student outcomes, the school may need to implement targeted interventions and support strategies to address the specific needs of its diverse student population and ensure more equitable and effective educational opportunities for all.

Open Quote I am responsible for the Brooklyn Excelsior success in 8th grade ELA for 2016 and 2017. I worked under tremendous stress with zero appreciation for my efforts. Administration at Brooklyn Excelsior specifically the Principal is corrupt and immoral and literally puts his bankroll and love interest of certain staff before the duties of a leader and children. I was let go after the ELA state exam, I hope the children do just as well under someone new. Close Quote
