Summary

PS 175 City Island is an elementary school located in the Bronx, New York, serving grades PK-8 with a total enrollment of 255 students. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #11, which is ranked 627 out of 874 districts in New York and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

PS 175 City Island consistently outperforms the district and the state of New York in proficiency rates for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math across all grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's 3rd grade ELA proficiency rate was 75%, compared to 49.7% for the district and 54.15% for the state. The school's 6th grade Math proficiency rate was 75.76%, significantly higher than the district's 39.64% and the state's 51.2%. PS 175 City Island also performs well in Science, with 5th grade and 8th grade proficiency rates exceeding the district and state averages.

While the school's overall performance is strong, the lower performance of its special education students is a concern and suggests that the school may need to focus on providing more targeted support and resources for this student group. The school's relatively high per-student spending and low student-teacher ratio may be contributing factors to its academic success, as these resources can enable more individualized attention and support for students. When compared to nearby schools, PS 175 City Island consistently outperforms the other schools in the district, including PS 160 Walt Disney, which is the closest school geographically. However, some of the nearby schools, such as Bronx Arts and Science Charter School and PS 72 Dr. William Dorney, struggle to meet the state's proficiency standards, particularly in Math and Science.

Open Quote My kid leaves this year, I’m done with this place, never even met the principal, seems she is hiding in a hidden tunnel that El Chapo would be impressed with,.The reception meeting point for most parents is like entering a hen house that is just plain rude and overbearing,But with superb skills in gaslighting and in need of training in many roles relating to the job they signed up for. So I’m talking my child to a local catholic school just like many of the kids on the island that have fled this school in the last four years. Such a pity. Close Quote
