Summary

Manhattan Village Academy is a public high school in New York City's District 2 that serves around 400 students in grades 9-12. The school has consistently ranked among the top high schools in New York state, with a statewide ranking between 121 and 380 over the past decade, and has received 4-5 out of 5 stars from SchoolDigger, indicating strong academic performance.

Manhattan Village Academy outperforms the New York City District 2 and statewide averages in most Regents exam subjects, with proficiency rates often 10-20 percentage points higher. The school's graduation rates have consistently been above 80% in recent years. Additionally, Manhattan Village Academy performs particularly well for certain student subgroups, such as Asian students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, ranking among the top 100 and top 25% of New York high schools, respectively, for these demographics.

While the school's overall performance is impressive, there are a few areas where Manhattan Village Academy could potentially improve, such as reducing chronic absenteeism and increasing proficiency rates in certain subjects. The school's performance also stands out compared to many nearby high schools, such as Gramercy Arts High School, High School For Language And Diplomacy, and International High School At Union Square, which generally do not match Manhattan Village Academy's academic achievements.

Open Quote For those that don't know, Manhattan Village Academy is amongst the TOP HIGH SCHOOLS in NYC. Currently, the aforementioned principal is on leave. However, my daughter's experience there has been astronomical including her writing, speech and maturity levels. They help develop strong respect and personalities. We came from a highly gifted JHS and commute daily from Brooklyn to NYC for this school and we couldn't be happier with her progress. The teachers and assistant principal and staff are all very caring, communicative, approachable and easy to talk to and they are all so eager to make sure our children aspire! It's truly been a wonderful experience being accepted into Manhattan Village Academy! Close Quote

Open Quote PLEASE do your research before sending your child to this school. Read reviews and comments made by teachers, students, etc. In the school open house, Principal Geager paints a pretty picture to parents, but you will soon learn its all lies. All he cares about is making himself look good. He doesn't help students, motivate or encourage but likes to pick and bully them. His staff is afraid of him; he disrespects the teachers, curses at both students/teachers, performs a lot of illegal actions and continues to get away with it. You have some hard working teachers, but the Principal Geager and Administrative staff (who follows his orders) is so corrupt, that it should deter you from even thinking about placing your child in this school. If you want your child to have a good high school experience, DON'T SEND THEM HERE! Just two weeks ago, a child committed suicide during her lunch period due to bullying from students. As a Principal who claims to know everything, he should have done something about it. The problem here is he’s the MAIN CULPRIT!
