Summary:

ZIP 89138 in Las Vegas is a small, unusually high-performing pocket of three schools serving about 4,266 students: two PK–5 elementaries, Vassiliadis Billy & Rosemary Elementary School (1,117 students) and Givens Linda Rankin Elementary School (757), plus one K–12 charter, Doral Academy Red Rock (2,392 — more than the other two combined). There is no standalone middle or high school here; Doral's K–12 span fills that role. Note that the elementaries are compared against Clark County while Doral is compared against State Sponsored Charter Schools, so district comparisons are not apples-to-apples across the three.

Every school here clears the state line in every subject by at least 14.3 points. Vassiliadis is the strongest all-around: math 77.4%, reading 79.8%, science 56.0%, and the ZIP's lowest chronic absenteeism at 10.5% versus 27.0% for its district and 25.5% statewide. Givens is close behind (math 73.1%, reading 72.1%) and has the ZIP's best single grade-level result, 3rd-grade math at 81.6%, but science is its clear soft spot at 39.8% — 16.2 points below Vassiliadis and a 9.0-point year-over-year drop, the steepest single movement in the data. Doral posts comparable reading (73.4%) and science (56.9%) with the leanest resources: $8,427 per student versus $12,565 and $12,403, and a 27.3 student–teacher ratio versus 17.1 and 18.0.

Two patterns are worth watching. First, math proficiency declines as grades advance at both elementaries and at Doral, mirroring a statewide trend — Givens' 16.9-point 3rd-to-5th math slide is steeper than the state's 12-point slide, and Doral's math falls 18.5 points from 3rd to 8th grade. Second, Doral's upper-grade science is weaker than its middle-school science (End-of-Course science 37.5% versus 58.3% at 8th grade; two high-school grades are state-suppressed), and its 11th-grade ACT shows a wide 41.8-point English-over-math gap (75.2% vs. 33.4%). Doral is also the only school here whose 18.6% absenteeism sits above its own district's 17.2%.
