West Wendover Middle School is a small, remote public middle school serving about 194 students in grades 6–8 in West Wendover, Nevada, a town on the Utah state line roughly 120 miles from Elko — far enough from other communities that no other school lies within 20 miles. It is part of the Elko district, and 100% of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, so it serves an almost entirely low-income population. The school's story is a long climb out of the basement that has since stalled. In 2018–19 it ranked 157th of 159 Nevada middle schools; it rose to the 30th percentile and 2 stars by 2021–22, then drifted back before reaching the 27th percentile in 2025–26 — four straight years at 1 star, and below its own district, which sits at the middle of Nevada districts.
