Summary

King Junior Martin Luther Elementary School is a PK–5 school at 2260 Betty Ln in Las Vegas, Nevada, enrolling 349 students as part of the Clark County School District — the smallest enrollment among the nearby Clark County elementary schools reviewed.

Academically, King trails nearly every school around it. In 2025–2026, 13.2% of students were proficient in math and 21.3% in reading, compared with district rates of 33.8% and 43.3%. The school ranked 369th of 376 Nevada schools (2nd percentile, 0 stars), and it has generally placed in the bottom 5–18% of the state for more than a decade. Math is the sharpest gap: King sits below every nearby school, including Lynch Ann Elementary School (15.8%) and the charter Nevada Prep Charter School (14.1%). Science proficiency is suppressed by the state and therefore unknown. Chronic absenteeism is 36.0%, above the district (27.0%) and state (25.5%) averages, though it has improved from 46.5% in 2022–23.

The most striking comparison is that nearby schools with the same 100% free/reduced-lunch population achieve far more. Miller Sandy Searles Elementary School reaches 48.0% in math and 58.9% in reading, and Heard Lomie G Elementary School reaches 47.5% and 48.5%, with absenteeism of only 8.6% and 10.0%. King also spends $19,141 per student (2023–24) — more than Miller ($17,343) or Heard ($15,163) — while its student–teacher ratio climbed from 14.7 in 2022–23 to 20.5 in 2024–25, the highest among same-district nearby schools. Those contrasts suggest King's results are not inevitable, and that strengthening math instruction, continuing to reduce absenteeism, and reviewing how its relatively high spending and staffing are used are the most actionable priorities.

Open Quote I once was a student here, and i found this school AMAZING. Even though i'm not in this school anymore, I still appreciate the teachers giving me the education I have today because i'm in all AP classes. I also am very grateful of how supportive they can be when you just feel like no one cares anymore. Thanks M.L.K. Staff love Ya'll. <3 Close Quote

Open Quote I have found this school year 2010-2011 to be the most fruitful for both of my children 1st and 2nd grade. I complement the teachers and their motivation that they give to my children to read and turn in their homework each Friday with their little incentives they give them. It's a team effort and I am very pleased with my children's motivation and school performance this year. Also the concept of having 2 teachers in one classroom, I believe does make a great difference. My second grade son almost made it to the G.A.T.E program and that's speaks tons of the material and the teaching that goes on in the classroom.
I know for a fact that kids will do anything but homework if we let them do so...It's our responsibility us parents to make sure they sit down for those 15-20 min to read and to do homework EVERY DAY; let's not blame our teachers for our faults!
Good luck MLK staff, pls keep encouraging the kids to succeed. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has poor teachings, and is very ghetto, I hate my child has to go to this school. Some of the teachers here have no idea how to teach!! Just because you are a teacher doesn't always mean you can teach. My child scores are low and they have no idea how to help her. Close Quote
