Summary

Chaparral High School is a public high school in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving 2,242 students in grades 9-12. It is part of the Clark County School District, which is ranked 5 out of 12 in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Chaparral High School has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing high schools in Nevada, with its academic performance significantly below the state and district averages. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 9.7% of Chaparral students were proficient or better in the EOC Science Exam, compared to 23.1% statewide and 22.9% in the Clark County district. The school's four-year graduation rate has hovered around 81.5% in recent years, slightly below the state and district averages, and it has a very high chronic absenteeism rate, reaching over 50% in the 2024-2025 school year.

Chaparral High School's performance is significantly lower than that of nearby schools, such as Explore Knowledge Academy J-Senior High School and Southeast Career Technical Academy High School, which rank much higher in the state and have better academic outcomes. Despite the school's relatively high spending per student, around $9,500, this does not seem to be translating into improved academic performance.

Open Quote I was a serious student, and cared whether my teachers were knowledgeable and effective. For the most part, I was more than satisfied. I was also satisfied with the variety of electives, access to technology, and social climate. I'm often surprised when I hear horror stories about high school, marveling that those years were not miserable for me. This is why I give four stars (above average) despite direct knowledge of similar schools for comparison's sake. Close Quote
