Sandia Elementary is a PK–5 school in Clovis, New Mexico, serving 338 students as part of Clovis Municipal Schools, a district ranked 57th of 87 statewide. In 2025–26 the school ranked 196th of 346 New Mexico elementary schools (43rd percentile, 2 stars), well below its peak of 59th of 421 (86th percentile, 4 stars) in 2014–15. About 85.8% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–25, and the student-teacher ratio improved from 19.3 in 2022–23 to 14.3 in 2024–25.

Reading is the relative bright spot. All-grade English language arts proficiency was 48.43%, above the district's 44.71% and the state's 44.66%. That average is lifted by 4th grade, where 72.13% scored proficient — far above district and state and second only to Texico Elementary among nearby schools. Third- and fifth-grade ELA (34.55% and 35.56%) fall below district and state, so the strength is not uniform. Math is the clearest weakness: 26.88% all-grade, below district and state, with only 4th grade (33.87%) above both. Fifth-grade math (24.44%) trails the district by about 10 points, and 5th-grade science (25.58%) trails district and state by 6–7 points.

Compared with neighbors, Sandia is mid-pack: essentially tied on overall rank with Parkview Elementary (43rd percentile), though Parkview has stronger math and science. Sandia trails Mesa Elementary, Barry Elementary, and Zia Elementary, while clearly outperforming La Casita Elementary, James Bickley Elementary, and Arts Academy At Bella Vista. Texico, about 10 miles away, is a regional outlier at the 96th percentile. Poverty is high at Sandia but similar at Mesa, Zia, Parkview, and Barry, and several of those schools score much higher, so poverty alone does not explain the gaps.
