Aces Technical Charter School

Aces Technical Charter School is a small alternative charter school on Montgomery Blvd NE in Albuquerque, NM, serving 165 students in grades PK–10 as its own local education agency, so its district-level and school-level figures are identical.

In 2025-26, ACES scored above New Mexico in English language arts (48.04% vs. 44.66%) and math (30.1% vs. 27.85%), but below the state in science (25% vs. 33.62%). That 8.6-point science gap stands out for a school with a technical focus, though science is tested only in grades 5 and 8 and both of ACES' grade-level science results are suppressed, so the figure rests on very few students. The one-year improvement was large — math rose 16.6 points and ELA 9.3 points after several years of trailing the state — but with roughly a dozen students per grade, a few students can shift a percentage, so a single strong year is not yet a trend. Seventh-grade math (50% vs. 26.93% statewide) is a clear bright spot; fourth-grade ELA was the one dip. Note that the free/reduced-lunch rate jumping to 100% in one year reflects a change in meal-program reporting, not a sudden change in families.

Compared with nearby schools, ACES sits in the middle. It is ahead of Native American Community Academy, Abq Sign Language Academy, and Corrales International in ELA and math, but well behind Explore Academy and Mission Achievement And Success, which post higher proficiency in every subject while serving similar or higher poverty levels. Its 11.7 students-per-teacher ratio is favorable for a small school and lower than Manzano High or Eldorado High. One structural fact matters most for families: ACES is the only school in this group that stops at grade 10, so it reports no graduation rate, no 11th-grade results, and no SAT data, and students must transfer elsewhere for their final two years. Many of its test results are suppressed, so no single number tells the whole story.
