Summary

Coral Community Charter is a small PK–8 charter school with 241 students at 4401 Silver Avenue SE in Albuquerque's 87108 ZIP code, listed for reporting within Albuquerque Public Schools but performing far above that district's overall standing. Coral has earned 4 or 5 stars in each of the last five years, placing it in the top 21% of New Mexico elementary schools every year and twice in the top 10%.

Coral's reading and math results run roughly 1.4x and 1.3x the district and state averages, and it beats both the district and state in every subject and grade reported for 2025–26. Fifth grade is the standout: its math proficiency of 54.55 is the highest of any school nearby, and its science score of 50.0 is about 1.5x district and state. That matters, because Coral sits in a low-performing pocket. The two closest schools, Zia Elementary and Whittier Elementary, perform at entirely different levels, and the surrounding cluster — Emerson Elementary, La Mesa Elementary, Montezuma Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, Kirtland Elementary — mostly ranks in the bottom 15% of the state. Only Bandelier Elementary, Monte Vista Elementary, and 21st Century Public Academy are comparable.

Two things to watch. Math proficiency fell from 50 to 35.79 in 2025–26 while district and state math moved up, and 4th grade math (27.5) barely clears the state average, even as 5th grade math soars. Reading has stayed stable at 63.16. The school's subgroup results are a genuine strength, often in the top 10% statewide for Hispanic, low-income, English-learner, and special-education students, though its female-student ranking has drifted downward for three years. Notably, smaller classes do not explain these results — Coral's 13.5:1 ratio is the second-highest among nearby schools, while the lowest performers have the smallest classes.

Open Quote My nephew and 2 nieces attended this school for many years. Throughout their years at the school, I saw huge growth in them, which is a credit to the staff individualizing lessons for each of them and structuring the school to accommodate all of their students' needs. All of the staff at the school are loving, attentive, and strive to make sure each child's needs are met, and the administration are responsive, proactive, and compassionate. Everything they do, they do with the students' best interest at heart. They have amazing staff for neurodivergent children as well. This school is a breath of fresh air in Albuquerque and I highly recommend it. Close Quote
