Los Lunas Public Schools operates two middle schools serving grades 7–8 — Los Lunas Middle and Valencia Middle School — with a combined enrollment of about 1,164 students. The Los Lunas Public Schools district ranks in the bottom third of New Mexico districts (63rd of 87), but its two middle schools perform very differently, so the choice between them matters more than the district average suggests.
Los Lunas Middle is the clear standout. It scores above both the district and the state in every 2025–26 language arts and math measure at both grade levels, holds a 3-star rating three years running, and ranks 83rd of 191 middle schools statewide (57th percentile). Valencia Middle School sits below district and state averages in every subject and grade level measured, has slipped from 2 stars to 1, and has fallen in rank three years straight — from the 42nd percentile to the 28th.
