Eunice Municipal Schools

Eunice Municipal Schools is a small district in southeastern New Mexico serving about 748 students in grades PK–12 across three schools: Mettie Jordan Elementary (PK–5, 357 students), Caton Middle (6–8, 170 students), and Eunice High (9–12, 221 students). There is no alternative school. The district as a whole is rated 1 star and ranks 66th of 87 in New Mexico, at the 24th percentile, but that single rating hides real differences among the three schools.

Caton Middle is the strongest academic standout, with 46% of students proficient in all-grade ELA — above the district (38.86%) and the state (43.34% / 44.66%) — plus above-state results in 7th-grade ELA (51.85% vs. 46.63%) and 8th-grade ELA (61.54% vs. 43.61%). It ranks 98th of 191 (49th percentile, 2 stars). Eunice High has the best improvement story, rising from 109th of 131 (17th percentile, 1 star) to 71st of 132 (46th percentile, 2 stars), and its 88.6% graduation rate is well above the state's 80.6%; 11th-grade science is at the state level. Mettie Jordan Elementary ranks 268th of 346 (23rd percentile, 1 star), though its 4th-grade ELA rate of 61.9% is above the state's 50.36%. Its all-grade ELA (33.78%) and math (13.61%) fall below both district and state, and 5th-grade ELA, math, and science are all low — 5th-grade science is 13.73% / 14% versus about 32% statewide.

The clearest system-wide issue is math: every school trails the state (25.54% / 27.85%).
