Summary:

South Valley Prep is the only school in this area, serving grades 6–8 to 138 students in Albuquerque. It is the entire South Valley Prep district, so school and district results are identical, and there are no peer schools nearby to compare against — the most useful reference points are state averages and the school's own past performance.

The school ranked 107th of 191 schools in 2025–2026 with 2 stars, up from 140th of 192 (1 star) the year before, a 33-position gain, though still below its 2023–2024 mark of 72nd of 165 (3 stars). Math is the clearest weak spot: all-grades proficiency is 10.71%, against state rates of about 25.5%–27.9%, and both 7th- and 8th-grade math are under 20%. English language arts is much closer to state, at 36.61% overall versus state rates of about 43.3%–44.7%, and 8th-grade ELA is nearly at parity at 42.55% versus roughly 43.6%–43.9% statewide. Science was the brightest story, rising from 20.83% to 29.79% while state science stayed flat near 34%.

Two trends are worth watching. ELA slipped from 39.13% to 36.61% year over year while the state held steady, and math edged up only slightly, from 10.14% to 10.71%, while the state rose more, so the math gap did not meaningfully close. Context matters: 100% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, and the student/teacher ratio is 15.3. With only 138 students, grade-level percentages can swing widely, and 6th-grade ELA and math results were suppressed by the state — that means unknown, not low. Overall, the school is gaining ground in state rank and science but still faces a large mathematics gap.
