Summary:

ZIP code 08753 has 13 schools in Toms River Regional School District: eight elementary, two intermediate or middle, and three high schools, serving students from elementary through high school. Enrollment ranges from 354 to 1,861. In 2025–2026, elementary school averages were below state results in ELA (43% versus 49%), math (44% versus 47%) and fifth-grade science (21% versus 27%); the middle-school averages were also below the state in each listed subject. The clearest takeaway is that results vary sharply between nearby schools and grades: third-grade math ranged from 26% to 66%, and fourth-grade math from 24% to 57%.

Toms River High School East stands out in Geometry: it scored 88% on the end-of-course test and 89% in ninth grade, compared with state results of 52% and 50%. Among elementary schools, North Dover led third- and fourth-grade math at 66% and 57%, but fifth-grade math was 31%, below the state’s 46%. Washington Street led third-grade ELA at 59% versus 48% statewide and was above the state in fifth-grade science, 31% versus 27%. Hooper Avenue led fifth-grade ELA and math, at 53% and 48%. At the other end, Walnut Street had the lowest elementary ELA results in all three tested grades and the lowest fourth- and fifth-grade math. Across the high schools, science and Algebra I were weaker areas: all three scored below the state in eleventh-grade science and Algebra I end-of-course.

Elementary results improved on average from 41% in 2024–2025 to 43% in 2025–2026, while the two middle schools’ average fell from 39% to 36%. High-school averages rose from 47% to 48%, but schools moved in different directions: North and South improved while East declined. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings also diverged: East Dover rose from the 22nd to the 41st percentile between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026, while North Dover fell from the 65th to the 42nd. Low-income figures are context, not an explanation for results: in 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible rates were 23% at Hooper Avenue and 64% at Walnut Street.
