Calvary Christian School

When I first came to this school, my mother really understood the importance of enrolling into a Christian/Religiously affiliated school solely because of how crucial it is to ground oneself in Christian faith as well as seek out a great education (being that most private schools provide just that), however, I encountered something quite different during my stay within the high school. Upon first entering the school, I deeply appreciated the many courses offered to the students, and I anticipated learning throughout my high school years, however, the course list seemed to diminish each and every year (as well as the teachers). After the first year, I realized how this school seemed to function, and I wasn't necessarily pleased, yet I didn't really want to leave until sophomore year. For starters, I realized that majority of the teachers taught subjects of which they did not get a degree for and recognize very little of the material covered within the course. Even the guidance counselors seem to offer very little guidance when it comes aiding students on their journey to college (no fee waiver offers, very little scholarship help, even SAT prep). This was very prevalent within my last year at the school. I also realized that the school was very selective with their favoritism. If one attends the church or youth group affiliated with the school, or even has a family member on staff, the administration takes their time with them as far as academics or even disciplinary attention, yet they are quick to go after those who do not reside within that bubble. Another thing about discipline is that there seems to be very little done with punishable acts that arises within class strife or student retaliation. The high school also offers very little extra-curricular activities and honestly just caters to those who are athletically inclined as opposed to those who want to function within other fields. Worst of all, if you're a minority, the school isn't as diverse as you would like it to be, Students have said very distasteful things directed at me, and even worse, some teachers have made very questionable comments.Altogether, the most important thing is that you do not feel very prepared for college upon leaving, especially if you go to a public college/state school. I can't really speak for the k-8 portion of the school, because I imagine that it's a completely different scenario, but the high school is definitely not up to par with other Christian high schools within the area
