Summary

Leroy Gordon Cooper Elementary School is a public elementary school in Keyport, New Jersey, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Old Bridge Township School District. The school has shown mixed academic performance, with strengths in certain grade levels and student subgroups, but also areas of concern.

While the school's 3rd and 4th-grade proficiency rates in ELA and Math are generally higher than the state average, they are often lower than the Old Bridge Township School District averages. However, the school's 5th-grade proficiency rates in ELA, Math, and Science are consistently lower than both the district and state averages, particularly in Science, where only 18.7% of students are proficient or better, compared to 29.1% for the district and 30.1% for the state. The school's performance on standardized tests is also inconsistent across grade levels, suggesting a need to focus on improving the outcomes of upper-elementary students.

Another area of concern is the school's rising chronic absenteeism rate, which increased from 8.7% in 2020-2021 to 16.6% in 2022-2023, higher than the Old Bridge Township School District average of 13.8%. Compared to nearby schools, such as Memorial Elementary School, Keyport Central School, and Raritan Valley School, Leroy Gordon Cooper Elementary School generally performs at a similar or slightly lower level on standardized tests, with the notable exception of the 5th-grade Science assessment.

Open Quote This school is the best. I am only here a couple of years and they are like second home to my family. teachers work really hard to give students great education and the principal and Secretary are very helpful. The PTA is very good and they believe is giving back a lot. The technology is tops and provide every kid one laptop. Never leaving Cliffwood Beach. Close Quote
