Summary

Roosevelt School is an elementary school located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, serving grades 3-5 with a total enrollment of 297 students. While the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of New Jersey elementary schools over the past 5 years, it has shown some notable strengths, particularly in supporting the academic achievement of Hispanic and low-income students.

Roosevelt School's performance for Hispanic and low-income students has been impressive, with these subgroups consistently outperforming the state average and ranking in the top 25-50% and top 15-30% of New Jersey elementary schools, respectively. The school's English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates have also been above the Lyndhurst district and state averages, especially in grades 4 and 5. However, the school's math and science proficiency rates have been more mixed, sometimes exceeding and sometimes falling short of district and state benchmarks.

Compared to nearby schools, Washington School in the Nutley district outperforms Roosevelt School in both test scores and overall rankings. Additionally, Roosevelt School has faced challenges with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 11.1% to 16.7% over the past few years, which are higher than the state average. The school's per-student spending of $6,715 in 2018-2019 was also lower than some nearby schools, which may contribute to these performance differences.

Open Quote This school is awesome. The teachers are fun and cool but they get the job done. You learn something everyday an hve fun doing it. they are only hard on you if you dont listen. If you just act right you'll be great. evry year the sixth graders go on a three day camping trip. In 8th you hve a lot of awsome fieldtrips. (if ur good) And, there is always a district wide walk a thon to help certain fundraisers. such as supporting diabetes, cancer and other causes. The only thing id complain about is the people. Its mainly whites-- italians to be specific. Im not trying to but racist but they can really get at you sometimes. Make sure you get involved with the right people. Thers like 20 blacks and 30 hispanics. u get used to it. Ive gone since 1st grade all through to 8th. im graduating this year. Im really excited to graduate with the people ive known all my life. If you go to roosevelt i can almost garentee ull hve the time of your life! :) Close Quote
