Open Quote Unfortunately since an admin. change this school is very poorly run. Academically school is OK, but elementary school years should also include fun learning experiences and social interactions. In the 6 year attendance, k-5, there was not one field trip, no show and tell for the little ones, no science fair etc. For all special days/holidays there are no activities like eg. mothers day tea, fathers day trivia or flag football, father daughter dance etc. No after school activities are offered like Lego, drama or science clubs. Social activities, so that the kids and parents get to know each other are minimized to a bingo night in spring and a pumpkin event in fall. Ice cream socials are not allowed and there are no end of year carnivals/get togethers either anymore.
Pto collects money with various fundraisers and tries to implement new, fun activities other schools in this district do/allow for years, but everything "new" gets shut down by the principal. Sporadic assemblies "lighten the day" a bit, but otherwise there is no talking allowed in hallways, during lunch you can't sit where you want and to top it there is quiet time instead of social interaction. Very disappointing 6 year experience. Hope for an admin. change if you are in or move to this district. Close Quote

Open Quote I'm not quite sure what school the previous poster is referring to as Land O Pines DOES have quite a few activities. Over the past 2 years, we have attended pumpkin carving in the fall, Barnes and Noble nights, TONS of dining to donate evenings, Spring Pirate Pizza Bingo. As a matter of fact, Book and Blankets- a school wide evening reading event- is next week! I truly believe a school is as good as the parents. If you get involved, stay on top of activities and show initiative, you will have a positive experience. I did get involved and am very happy that we attend LOP. As a side note, our principal does run a tight ship and under such guidance, my daughter is flourishing! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
