Charles W. Lewis Middle School is a public school in Blackwood serving 704 students in grades 6–8, within Gloucester Township Public Schools. In 2024–2025, 61% of students were eligible for free/reduced lunch, and the student–teacher ratio was 10.6:1. The clearest academic contrast is strong Algebra I performance alongside weaker results in other tested subjects. Most importantly, grade-level ELA, math, and science proficiency is generally below state results.

Algebra I is a standout: 88% of students were proficient at the end-of-course level, compared with 85% districtwide and 40% statewide. In contrast, the school’s average ELA proficiency across grades 6–8 was 35%, versus 41% in the district and 53% statewide; it was also below nearby-school averages in each grade.
