Summary

Teaneck Community Charter school is a public charter school serving 367 students in grades K-8 in Teaneck, New Jersey. The school consistently outperforms the state average in English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency, with its 3rd grade ELA proficiency reaching 79.6% in 2024-2025 compared to the state average of 44.9%. Teaneck Community Charter school's academic performance is particularly strong for certain student subgroups, ranking 24th out of 463 New Jersey elementary schools for African American students in ELA and 92nd out of 1,032 for Hispanic students in ELA.

While the school's Mathematics performance is more mixed, with some grade levels exceeding the state average and others falling below, Teaneck Community Charter school outperforms nearby public schools, such as John Greenleaf Whittier Elementary School and Lillian M. Steen, in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency. The school's diverse student population, with significant representation of African American (37%), Hispanic (31%), and White (26%) students, is served by a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to the state average.

However, Teaneck Community Charter school's chronic absenteeism rates have been increasing, reaching 16.6% in 2022-2023, which is an area of concern that the school may need to address. Despite this challenge, the school's efficient utilization of resources and strong academic outcomes, particularly for student subgroups, make it a high-performing option for families in the Teaneck area.

Open Quote Tccs review

The idea of 18 per class is why I have stayed for 4 years. For a school with 18/class the kids should do better academically. There is a total of 320 kids. This year my child barely gets HW. He is a average academically. He would do better if challenged more. There is no tutoring available and their is only 2 teachers for special need students. The resources are not there to help children succeed academically. They focuses too much on their musical. They kids only have a recorder for music program. The spanish program is a joke. Spanish meets once a week, and kids watch movies. They learn same stuff from 1st grade and there is no test, or HW. There is no gym, so rainy days suck! There is barely a playground. They had to remove a lot of pieces of playground, because not safe. A handful of broken arms. The teachers are super friendly, but do not know how to communicate with parents. My child was falling behind and I never got an email..shamefull! If child gets into a fight, be prepared NOT to get a phone call, unless they see it for themselves. I am lookjng into other schools, and if they do not shape up on their HW and communication, I will say good bye to TCCS, I can not risk it anymore. Close Quote
