Margate City School District

Margate City School District has two schools serving PK–8: William H. Ross III School serves PK–4, and Eugene A. Tighe Middle School serves grades 5–8. In 2025–2026, the schools’ average results were above state averages in every subject: the average advantage was 31 percentage points in math, 23 in ELA and 18 in science. Most importantly, all 14 reported grade-and-subject results beat their same-grade state benchmarks, with advantages ranging from 9 to 50 points.

Tighe had the largest reported advantage: seventh-grade math was 88% proficient, compared with 38% statewide, a 50-point gap. Its smallest advantage was still positive: fifth-grade ELA was 61% versus 52%, a 9-point gap. At Ross, the strongest relative result was third-grade math, at 68% versus 49% statewide, a 19-point gap; the smallest was fourth-grade math, at 59% versus 47%, a 12-point gap. Because the schools serve different grade spans, their test results do not provide a like-grade comparison.

The overall advantage over state results narrowed slightly year over year, from about 27 points in 2024–2025 to 26 in 2025–2026. Subject patterns differed: math’s average gap declined by 4 points, ELA was essentially unchanged, and science’s rose by 6 points. Grade-level changes were mixed: at Tighe, fifth-grade math fell 23 points while seventh-grade math rose 12; at Ross, third-grade ELA rose 11 points while fourth-grade ELA fell 9. SchoolDigger ranked Tighe 28th of 743 schools, at the 96th percentile with five stars, and Ross 334th of 1,331, at the 75th percentile with four stars. In 2024–2025, student–teacher ratios were similar at 7.0 and 7.2, and free/reduced lunch eligibility was 7.0% at Ross and 7.1% at Tighe.
