Summary:

Island Heights School District has one school, Island Heights Elementary School, serving prekindergarten through grade 6, with 142 students. In 2025–26, the school’s average across grades 3–6 was 67% in English language arts (ELA), compared with 49% statewide, and 64% in mathematics, compared with 46% statewide. The most important takeaway is that results were above state averages in both subjects, although the school’s advantage narrowed from the previous year.

Island Heights Elementary School is both the district’s highest- and lowest-scoring school because it is the only one listed, so that is not a meaningful school-to-school ranking. Within the school, grade 5 ELA stood out: 91% met the benchmark, 39 percentage points above the state’s 52%. Grade 6 mathematics was also strong at 78%, 37 points above the state’s 40%. Grade 3 was the clearest concern: mathematics was 40%, 9 points below the state’s 49%, while ELA was 47%, 1 point below the state’s 48%.

The overall advantage shrank as ELA and math averages fell: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, the school’s ELA average dropped 6 points, from 73% to 67%, and its math average dropped 11 points, from 75% to 64%. Its advantage over the state changed from 21 points in ELA and 29 in math to 17.9 and 18.3 points, respectively. Grade 5 science was a notable exception, rising from 29%—1 point below the state—to 50%, 23 points above it. SchoolDigger gives the school four stars and ranks it in the 78th percentile in both 2024–25 and 2025–26, compared with the 77th percentile in 2023–24. Other context includes a 9.5 student–teacher ratio and a 2% free/reduced lunch eligible rate in 2024–25; chronic absenteeism was 8%, versus 14% statewide. These figures describe one school and do not support comparisons between schools.
