Cumberland County Board of Vocational Education

The Cumberland County Board of Vocational Education has one high school, Cumberland County Technical Education Center, serving grades 9–12 in Cumberland County, with 1,296 students. Because it is the only school in the board, there is no school-to-school comparison. The most important takeaway is that its results vary sharply by subject: it is well above New Jersey in some ELA and math results, but far below the state in Algebra II.

The school’s strongest 2025–26 comparisons were grade 9 ELA, with 81% proficient versus 51% statewide, and grade 11 NJGPA mathematics, at 84% versus 61%; those advantages were 29 and 23 percentage points. Grade 11 science was also above the state, 35% versus 29%, a 7-point advantage. Results improved relative to the state in grade 9 ELA and Algebra I, but four other matched outcomes lost ground. ELA rose 8 points at the school, compared with 2 statewide, and Algebra I rose 4 points, compared with 2 statewide; meanwhile, the school’s disadvantage widened by 10 points in Geometry and 7 in Algebra II, and its advantages narrowed by 11 points in science and 4 in NJGPA math. The sharpest decline was grade 9 Algebra II, down 37 points in one year. SchoolDigger ranked the school 156th of 434 schools (64th percentile, 3 stars) in 2025–26, down from 125th of 434 (71st percentile, 4 stars) the prior year. Other context includes a 12.8 student–teacher ratio and 41% free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–25; graduation was 100% and chronic absenteeism 9%, compared with 89% and 14% statewide.
