Summary:

The two schools in Absecon Public Schools District serve PK–4 and grades 5–8, covering elementary and middle school in the Absecon area. In 2025–2026, Emma C Attales averaged 59% in ELA across grades 5–8, 6 percentage points above its grade-matched state average, while H Ashton Marsh averaged 41% in ELA across grades 3–4, 7 points below the state. Math was a concern at both: Marsh averaged 32%, 17 points below the state, and Attales averaged 31%, 5 points below. The clearest overall finding is that Attales has stronger ELA results, while math is below state averages at both schools.

Attales’ standout result was Algebra I: 97% proficient, 57 points above the statewide End of Course result; its separate grade 8 Algebra I entry was also 97%, 23 points above its state comparison. Attales grade 7 was another bright spot, with 67% proficient in ELA, 11 points above the state, and 48% in math, 10 points above. At the other end, Attales grade 5 math was 26%, 19 points below the state, and its grade 8 math was the lowest listed score at 15%, 7 points below. Marsh grade 3 math was 31%, 18 points below the state. Because the schools serve different grade ranges, their scores are not like-for-like school comparisons.

Recent changes were mixed: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, Marsh’s average fell 8 points in ELA and 11 in math; Attales’ average rose 3 points in ELA but fell 4 in math and 7 in science. Attales’ Algebra I End of Course result rose 25 points. SchoolDigger ranked Attales 326th of 743 schools, in the 56th percentile with 3 stars, and Marsh 918th of 1,331, in the 31st percentile with 2 stars; these are separate ranking measures. In 2024–2025, the student–teacher ratios were 11.1 at Attales and 8.5 at Marsh. That year, 57% of Attales students and 53% of Marsh students were free/reduced lunch eligible. These context measures are observations, not explanations for test results.
