Somerset Hills Regional School District

The Somerset Hills Regional School District includes three schools serving grades PK–12 and 1,605 students across elementary, middle and high school. In 2025–2026, every reported school test score was above its matching state result, with leads ranging from 4 points to 48 points.

Bernardsville Middle School stands out for math: its Algebra I End-of-Course score was 88%, 48 points above the state’s 40%. On that same test, it scored 42 points higher than Bernards High School, which scored 47% and was 7 points above the state. Bernards High also had a strong 9th-grade Geometry result, 88% and 38 points above the state. Marion T. Bedwell Elementary School was consistently above state results, with larger leads in ELA (15–17 points) than math (6–8 points). The smallest reported lead was Bernardsville Middle’s grade 5 math result, at 4 points. Most scores cover different grades, so they do not provide a like-for-like overall ranking of the schools.

Results over time moved in different directions: Bernards High’s average state-relative gap grew by 13 points across matched tests, while Bernardsville Middle’s narrowed by 3 points; Bedwell’s was essentially unchanged. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings rose from 83 to 88 for Bernards High and from 87 to 90 for Bernardsville Middle between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026, while Bedwell’s fell from 74 to 68. SchoolDigger ranks the district 108th of 607, at the 82nd percentile, with four stars. For 2024–2025, student-teacher ratios were 9.3 at Bedwell, 9.7 at Bernardsville Middle and 10.9 at Bernards High; free/reduced lunch eligible figures were 24%, 18% and 18%, respectively.
