Ashland School District

Ashland School District is a small New Hampshire district with one K–8 school, Ashland Elementary School, serving 159 students at 16 Education Drive in Ashland. The school offers a low student-teacher ratio of 8.1:1 and serves a broad range of elementary and middle-grade students in one campus, so the school’s results represent the district as a whole.

Ashland Elementary School has its strongest overall results in reading. In 2025–2026, 51% of students were proficient in reading, compared with 55% statewide. Reading performance was especially strong in third grade, seventh grade, and eighth grade, with 64%, 71%, and 64% proficient, respectively. Seventh-grade reading was the school’s best reported result and exceeded the state rate. Science proficiency was 33%, five points below the state, but improved considerably from 20% the previous year. These results suggest that families may find meaningful strengths in literacy, particularly in several upper elementary and middle grades.

Mathematics is the main area requiring attention. Only 28% of students were proficient in math, compared with 44% statewide, and results were especially low in fourth grade, at 10%, and sixth grade, at 12%. Sixth grade also had the school’s weakest reading result, at 18%, although seventh-grade performance rebounded sharply. The school’s current one-star rating and 17th-percentile ranking indicate that overall performance remains below that of most comparison schools, despite modest ranking improvement from the previous year. Parents should view the grade-level differences cautiously because the school is small and results can vary significantly by student cohort. Important questions include how the school supports fourth- and sixth-grade math, strengthens sixth-grade reading, and builds on the stronger reading outcomes in grades 3, 7, and 8.
