Summary:
ZIP code 27055 contains two public high schools in Yadkinville, NC — Yadkin Early College and Yadkin Success Academy — serving grades 9-12 and 6-12 respectively, under the Yadkin County Schools district, which is ranked 143rd out of 246 districts in North Carolina.
Yadkin Early College is the community's clear academic standout. It consistently ranks in the 81st to 91st percentile among North Carolina high schools, earning four or five stars in recent years. Its students post exceptional End-of-Course proficiency rates, often exceeding district and state averages by wide margins. For example, Math III proficiency reached 97.5% in 2025-2026, compared to 72.5% district-wide and 68.9% statewide. Chronic absenteeism is a very low 5.0%, and the school's poverty rate is 48.5%. In contrast, Yadkin Success Academy struggles significantly. It ranks in the 1st to 9th percentile with a zero-star rating, serves a population with an 86.1% free/reduced lunch rate, and has chronic absenteeism of 56.6% — more than double district and state averages. Its graduation rate is only 40.9%, and most test proficiency rates are in the single digits or low twenties, far behind Yadkin Early College.
The most striking gap is between the two schools in the same district. Yadkin Success Academy spends about $31,264 per student and has a low 8.9 student-teacher ratio, while Yadkin Early College spends $6,070 per student with a reported 41.8 ratio. Despite far higher spending and smaller classes, Yadkin Success Academy's outcomes remain dramatically lower, highlighting the significant challenges of high poverty and chronic absenteeism rather than simply a lack of resources. If you are choosing between these schools, Yadkin Early College shows a strong record of academic success and attendance. Yadkin Success Academy appears designed for students with exceptional needs, but its current performance levels are concerning.
