Open Quote Annunciation Catholic School has a beautiful building and wonderful facade. Once inside you begin to see that it was all built on a shaky foundation of greed and pride. The school does nothing to academically challenge the students, they offer elective classes which take precious time away from the core curriculum, and do little to instill discipline and respect in the students.

I have personally watched the middle school students day in and day out leave with no home work. Why? The students were given time in the day to complete all homework before leaving. Much of the work in the middle is not counted for grades, rather it is counted as long as the blanks are filled in. The elective classes are taught by unlicensed untrained parent volunteers and in no way tie into the curriculum. What school has time in the day to have kids out of instruction time so often.

Greed is an accepted practice at the school. You will pay tuition every month, then every week there is one fundraiser or another just to keeps the lights on. This stinks of mismanagement and inefficient use of resources. Also, the fundraisers, which are for the school are held in spite of the school. What I mean is, if the fundraiser is important enough the students and teachers are expected to use class time, several day even a week, to help prepare for the fundraiser. Again, where is the time in the academic calender for this?!

Finally respect and discipline, lets face it that is a huge part of why we send our kids to private school. The most glowing example is a recent case of sexual harassment involving 2 students. Sadly in true old school Catholic fashion, it was swept under the rug. The offending student was punished weeks after the fact with barely a slap on the hand. As a Catholic and a parent I was so offended by this, that I have decided that my child will no longer attend the school.

Once Annunciation was probably a wonderful school, but today it is a child's dream! No home work, no one to hold you responsible for poor behavior, lots of time out of the classroom and no expectation to push yourself. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
