Summit Virtual Academy is an alternative K-12 school in Salisbury, North Carolina, serving 241 students across all grade levels as part of the Rowan-Salisbury Schools district. The school serves a high-need population, with 80.5% of students qualifying for free/reduced-price lunch and a chronic absenteeism rate of 46.0% in 2024-25 — nearly double the state average of 24.2%. Because only 241 students are spread across 13 grade levels, individual test scores can swing widely from year to year and should be interpreted cautiously. Still, the combination of rising chronic absenteeism, a high student-to-teacher ratio, and severely low end-of-course scores suggests many students — particularly at the high school level — are struggling to stay engaged and academically on track.
