Summary

Northeast Middle is a public magnet middle school located in Mint Hill, North Carolina, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 581 students. The school is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district, which is ranked 119 out of 242 districts in North Carolina and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Northeast Middle consistently underperforms compared to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district and the state of North Carolina in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in EOG/Mathematics ranged from 31.9% for 8th grade to 36.8% for 6th grade, significantly lower than the district (51.5% - 59.3%) and state (48.7% - 57.2%) averages. The school also struggles to serve its diverse student population effectively, with the school's rankings for various student subgroups, such as Asian, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students, among the lowest in the state, indicating significant achievement gaps.

When comparing Northeast Middle to other nearby schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg district, it becomes clear that Northeast Middle is an outlier in terms of academic performance. For example, Piedmont Middle School, located just 7.65 miles away, consistently outperforms Northeast Middle across all subject areas and grade levels, with significantly higher proficiency rates and a 4-5 star rating from SchoolDigger. Northeast Middle's academic performance has also steadily declined over the past several years, with proficiency rates dropping in both mathematics and reading across all grade levels, suggesting the school is struggling to effectively address the needs of its student population.

Open Quote The bullying at this school is never ending. It's become almost a part time job to stay on top of ''reporting bullying" at this school. Teaches turn a blind eye to things that should never be acceptable in school. (Although the children should definitely be taught by their parent, that they go to school to get and education, not make other children's lives miserable.) This school is exhausting to the least.
