Lakeshore Middle is a public school in Mooresville, North Carolina, serving 531 students in grades 6 through 8 as part of Iredell-Statesville Schools. The school currently ranks in the 54th percentile statewide, a solid recovery from its low point in the 2023–24 school year, though it has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels when it consistently ranked in the upper quartile of North Carolina middle schools.

One of Lakeshore’s clearest strengths is 8th-grade science, where proficiency has stayed well above district and state averages for four consecutive years – in 2025–26, 75% of students scored proficient versus about 65% in the district and 69% statewide. The school has also made dramatic progress on attendance: chronic absenteeism dropped from 29.4% in 2021–22 to just 15.5% in 2024–25, now better than both the district and state averages. English Learner and low-income students have generally been performing at or above state median levels, and with a student–teacher ratio of 15.3, classes are smaller than at many nearby schools.

Math remains a persistent weak spot. Only 42% of 8th graders were proficient in math in 2025–26, far below the state average of 53%, and this gap has appeared year after year. Gifted and Talented students also rank near the bottom quintile statewide, suggesting that advanced learners may not be getting enough challenge. Results for specific student groups are mixed, though the school does well with English Learners and low-income students. When compared with nearby Mooresville Middle – a school with nearly identical poverty rates just a few miles away – Lakeshore lags significantly in overall ranking and in both math and reading scores. Within its own district, it outperforms higher-poverty schools like Troutman Middle and West Iredell Middle, but trails wealthier neighbors such as The Brawley School and Woodland Heights Middle. Overall, Lakeshore shows real strengths in science and attendance, but has room to improve in math and in supporting its highest-achieving students.

the teaching isn't proper and most teachers here should be
're trained" so that they can remember what a teacher is supposed to do not to edjuacte kids on what religion they should worship or teaching kids that they need to know this and they need to know that they need to know basic math science and reading skills as well as history they dont need to know how many atoms are in carbon that wont ever help them in life they need to be taught things that will matter in their future not a bunch of nonsense and busy work. half of these students time and energy is wasted on random knowledge and there needs to be a reform with the common core system as it doesnt exactly help students learn Close Quote
