Summary

North Iredell Middle in Olin, NC, serves 556 students in grades 6–8 as part of Iredell-Statesville Schools, a district earning 3 stars statewide. The school recently ranked 476 out of 778 North Carolina middle schools (39th percentile, 2 stars), placing it in the middle of the pack among nearby schools — ahead of same-district schools like Third Creek Middle and East Iredell Middle, but well behind North Davie Middle and Oakwood Middle IB School.

A genuine standout is attendance. Despite serving a population where nearly every family qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch, North Iredell Middle's chronic absenteeism rate is just 15.2% — far better than the state rate of 24.2% and much better than nearby West Iredell Middle (27.6%), East Iredell Middle (29.6%), and Third Creek Middle (32.2%). It is also a dramatic improvement from 44.9% a few years earlier. The school shows real strengths among specific student groups, too: gifted students rank in the 83rd percentile statewide, English learners jumped from the 6th to the 51st percentile, and special education students also improved significantly.

The clearest challenge is an 8th-grade achievement gap. While 6th and 7th graders score near state averages, 8th graders fall well behind — especially in math (38.4% proficient vs. 53% statewide) and science (49.8% vs. 68.6% statewide). This pattern has persisted for several years and is the school's most actionable area for improvement. Overall, North Iredell Middle is a solid school that outperforms many high-poverty neighbors, but it isn't yet a high-performing one. Its impressive attendance and recent subgroup gains suggest that targeted supports work; extending that focus to 8th-grade math and science would be the clearest path forward.
