Summary

Henderson County Career Academy (HCCA) is a very small public high school in Flat Rock, NC, serving about 114 students in grades 9–12 within the Henderson County Schools district. Located on the same campus as Henderson County Early College, the two schools sit at opposite ends of the academic spectrum—the Early College ranks in the 99th percentile statewide, while HCCA ranks in the 15th percentile (560th of 662 North Carolina high schools) and earns a 1-star rating for 2025–2026.

State test results show significant gaps compared with surrounding schools. Only 30% of HCCA students scored proficient on English II, far below the 58–81% range at nearby East Henderson High, Hendersonville High, and other Henderson County high schools, and well below the 64.6% statewide average. Biology (37.9%), Math I (40.0%), and Math III (48.6%) proficiency rates also trail district averages by wide margins. The graduation rate is 75.4%—the lowest among Henderson County high schools and far below the district rate of 93.7%—though with such a small student body, year-to-year swings can be large. By comparison, West Henderson High spends about $8,614 per student with a class-size ratio near 16:1. HCCA appears to be a specialized option serving students who may have struggled in traditional classrooms, but the data suggest that attendance and academic support remain major areas of need.
