Durham School of Technology is a small public high school in Durham, NC, serving about 219 students in grades 9–12 within the Durham Public Schools district, where nearly all students come from high-poverty backgrounds. Despite those challenges, the school has become one of the stronger high schools in the district. It currently ranks in the 72nd percentile statewide (188th out of 662 North Carolina high schools) and has earned a 4-star rating in four consecutive school years. That represents a notable turnaround from 2018-2019, when the school ranked in the 25th percentile with just 1 star.

Academically, Durham School of Technology outperforms both its district and the state on every End-of-Course test. In Biology, 77.8% of students scored proficient, compared to 49.3% for Durham Public Schools and 58.5% statewide. English II proficiency was 81.3%, far above the district's 57.9%, and Math I proficiency was 54.8% versus 42.1% statewide.
