Summary

Alderman Road Elementary is a PK–5 school in Fayetteville, NC, within Cumberland County Schools, serving 655 students in a community where nearly all families face economic disadvantage. The school has stabilized as a solidly mid-tier school, ranking in the 54th percentile statewide (688th out of 1,492 North Carolina elementary schools) with a 3-star rating in 2025–2026, a meaningful achievement given that the district itself ranks at only the 43rd percentile.

Alderman Road shows genuine strengths in the early grades. Third-grade reading proficiency jumped from 44.2% in 2023–2024 to 61.5% in 2025–2026, now well above both district and state averages. Third-grade math (74% proficient) also beats district and state marks. The school is particularly effective with military-connected students, ranking at the 69th percentile statewide with 4 stars, and multiracial students rank at the 85th percentile. Chronic absenteeism sits at 24.7%, matching the state average and far better than the district's 33.7% rate. Nearby schools such as Cumberland Road Elementary (33rd percentile) and C Wayne Collier Elementary (29th percentile) trail Alderman Road academically.

The biggest concern is a "third-grade strength, fifth-grade fade." By fifth grade, reading proficiency drops to 48.5% and math to 54.5%, both below state averages, a pattern that has persisted. Just half a mile away, Gray's Creek Elementary serves an equally high-poverty population yet ranks at the 83rd percentile with a 12.4% chronic absenteeism rate—half of Alderman Road's. Special education students have improved from the 18th to 44th percentile over three years, while White students (32nd percentile) and low-income students (43rd percentile) remain areas for growth. For parents, Alderman Road offers strong early elementary instruction and notable success with military families, but the school must find ways to sustain that momentum through fifth grade.

Open Quote The teachers when I attended this school are so amazing when I attended from Pre-K all the way to 5th grade and graduated from this school in 2011 I was always welcomed every morning with a smile and a "good morning". I am now a freshman in High School and I heard 2 things on the news already and it was strange how it has declined in security. But i still think it is a safe school. And I still love how the teachers treat you. Your child should be lucky to go to this awesome school. Close Quote

Open Quote My children have been attending Alderman Road Elementary for 4 years and we love it there! My daughter was there from 2nd-5th & my son from pre-k -1st. We have had wonderful teachers & the office staff & principal are unbeatable! They have great school activities for students and their families. They love volunteers (I have been fortunate to be able to volunteer weekly) & work well with parents. We are also a military family & they have always been good at working with deployments or other military circumstances. Unfortunately, we are relocating with the Army to AL and will be missing having our children going to Alderman. Close Quote
