Open Quote Love the school and staff, however, Rankin County School District, board, directors and transportation departments are a joke. They are endorsing a curriculum in math that has caused many parents great grief. (Traditional methods are not adequately taught.) The spelling curriculum is also a joke. Five letter words in fifth and sixth grade??? Come on teach them quality, not quantity. It is not the teachers' fault, they are handed a curriculum and told to teach it. Transportation is not much better. My question is how can the Board justify a multi-million dollar board building with marble inlay floors when children at the middle school had no heat in the freezing weather?? Sure the Board is all cooped up in their nice warm offices while the children have to layer clothing to stay warm in winter months. Priority should be placed on educating our future, and equipping them to be the best they can. MCT results show that the quality of education in this district has dropped. While I am no proponent of sheltering children in private schools, the quality is very attractive. Including the fact that I am a certified teacher, I would give the school a C and the District a big fat goose egg...0...F. Priority needs to be place back on educating the children and not systematically trying to figure out how to educate on a lower budget. Everyone is on a budget... Some things are well worth the cost, but not marble inlay flooring and comfort for a select few when the district serves over 19,000 children. Close Quote
