Hatley School is a K-12 alternative school in Amory, Mississippi, serving 905 students in the Monroe County School District — making it the largest of the district's three K-12 schools, ahead of Hamilton School (557 students) and Smithville School (540 students). For the 2024-2025 school year, 58.2% of Hatley students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch, a rate similar to Hamilton (60.0%) but higher than Smithville (48.7%). The school maintains a favorable student-teacher ratio of 11.5, nearly identical to both neighboring schools.

Academically, Hatley presents a mixed picture. The school posted strong results in several secondary-level subjects in 2025-2026: 8th grade math proficiency reached 73.8%, well above the state average of 51.4%; English II End-of-Course scores hit 67.8% compared to the state's 49.3%; and Biology proficiency was 73.9%, above the state's 63.1%. Hatley even outperformed Smithville in English II by a wide margin (67.8% vs. 53.3%). However, significant weaknesses exist at the elementary level. Only 34.2% of Hatley's 5th graders were proficient in math, compared to 49.6% statewide and an eye-popping 92.7% at Smithville — a 58.5-point gap. Algebra I End-of-Course scores also dropped sharply, from 71.6% in 2024-2025 to 52.7% in 2025-2026. Elementary ELA scores lag behind both the state and nearby schools.

Two other areas deserve attention. Hatley's chronic absenteeism rate reached 35.6% in 2023-2024, well above the state average of 23.9% and up from 19.7% in 2018-2019. The school's graduation rate of 86.5% in 2024-2025 was below the state average (89.2%) but above Hamilton (82.4%), though it has fluctuated significantly over the past five years, ranging from 84.5% to 96.8%. Overall, Hatley is a complex school with real strengths in middle-school math, English II, and secondary science, but its elementary math struggles and absenteeism challenges are areas that warrant attention.
